SpareFoot provides an online marketplace for self-storage units located throughout the United States. Storage operators are also offered into the network. A portion of the website is devoted to web marketing tools, explaining how to create an owner account. Facilities can use AdNetwork to get real time updates on available units and adjust pricing, as well as the ability to track search impressions and reservations. GeoPages lets owners create and maintain a landing page and share pricing and availability. Self Storage, like SpareFoot, provides a directory of storage units across the US and lets users search by location. SpareFoot, however, jumps ahead by adding searches based on price and unit size. These extra search filters are not available on Self Storage. On the other hand, Self Storage advertises discounts to military personnel and senior citizens while SpareFoot does not.

A negative point for both companies is the focus solely on the United States. When Canadians or Europeans have to rent storage units, they will have to peruse other websites. Perhaps SpareFoot will expand its client base in the future.

While Extra Space Storage provides US listings of storage facilities, some listed units require customers to phone to check space availability rather than operating in 'real time' like SpareFoot. SpareFoot is the only real-time marketplace for storage, incorporating real-time pricing with instant online reservations. A client booking a space through SpareFoot will not have to take time to phone headquarters but will instead proceed directly to the reservation button.

Another way SpareFoot is steps above both competitors concerns the way it focuses on pleasing the individual customer. The current special for GeoPages is no risk for 30 days; if owners do not like the program a full refund is available for the $50 fee per month. SiteBuilder is $75 per month with no setup fee and free technical support.
